We have not focused on the critical issues of maintenance, management and conservation of Japanese gardens outside of Japan. Therefore, in this 5th Symposium we will address the various issues and challenges facing people who work hands-on, day to day, in Japanese gardens throughout the world. At the same time, we would like to discuss how the Japanese Garden community within Japan can serve as a resource to address the challenges faced by existing gardens as well as for future projects abroad. We respectfully invite your participation in this vital symposium.

[Update: 9/25/2008] The Garden Society of Japan is publishing the proceedings.  We will let you know when it becomes available. Meantime, the following is the opening statement by Mr. Saheki, President.
